A family story

It was Roberto Verino's maternal grandparents, vineyard farmers in the Ribeira Sacra area, who instilled in him a curiosity for the noble art of winemaking.

The setting of Monterrei Castle was chosen to bring his idea to life.

For Roberto Verino, the Monterrei valley represented a potential recognized by centuries of winemaking tradition, which should be transformed into a benchmark for quality Galician wines.

The vineyard and the winery

Bodegas Gargalo is located at the foot of the Monterrei Castle, on the slope of the mountain that houses it, facing south and surrounded by 8 hectares of vineyards with local varieties, such as Godello, Albariño, Doña Branca and Loureira, and red wines such as Mencía, Arauxa and Merenzao, giving rise to a process of recovering the essence of Galician viticulture.

Gargalo It is located in a privileged location, both for its scenic beauty and for its natural conditions for growing vines.

The winery is made up of three large granite cubes whose vertices point to the cardinal directions, and its shape and texture make it blend into the landscape without distorting the surroundings.

In addition to the rigorous controls of the Monterrei Designation of Origin in which the winery is integrated, we reinforce quality controls with membership in the Galicia Galidade seal.

Galicia Calidade is a brand and a quality seal, granted to us by the Xunta de Galicia, which guarantees that the products it covers enjoy extra quality and exceed the controls required in the different audits carried out on them.
